New
Delhi, June 24: Ten activists of the Ali Sena were
arrested outside Plaza Cinema, Connaught Place, this
morning while protesting against certain
‘‘objectionable scenes’’ in the Sunny
Deol-Amisha Patel starrer Gadar.
Police said protestors tried to tear posters and
damage banners of the film. The incident, police
officials said, took place at around 11.25 am today,
when nine people, led by Saddam, a member of Ali
Sena, reached Plaza Cinema and tried to disrupt the
show. ‘‘All the protestors were residents of
Khajuri Khas. They were armed with ladders as they
wanted to damage the banners and posters of Gadar.
They were placed under arrest immediately,’’
police officials said.
Sources said that when policemen on duty tried to
prevent them from damaging the banners and posters,
the protestors retaliated by breaking a few windows.
A
senior police official said, ‘‘The protestors
had come to the scene with the intention of creating
a disturbance. All of them were arrested on the
spot.’’ He added, ‘‘We usually do have a
normal deployment of an sub-inspector, a head
constable and three to four constables in the area.
However, after this incident we have increased
deployment to avoid further incidents.’’
Sources said, ‘‘There was an increase in
deployment of police officials outside the cinema
hall, in the light of similar incidents in Bhopal
and Lucknow.’’
