Milan
Luthria denies signing Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek together
Yet another rumour is laid to rest! An over-excited magazine
had published reports that director Milan Luthria had been
signed by Devgans Films to direct Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek
Bachchan for his next project. But Luthria has clarified
that the news is baseless. "I have not signed any
artiste so far as I am busy with the scripting of the film,
which will be completed in the next two months. It is only
after the script is ready that we will decide whom to cast
for this film," Luthria told us. Luthria also added
that the film is an action-thriller and will go on the
floors within six months.

Stardust. The Bombay High court has restrained Magna

final disposal of Rs. 20 crore suit filed by her. The
injunction was granted in response to a notice issued by
Shilpa's lawyer Satish against the magazine.
Crime
and Punishment underworld Nexus surfaces again! is Hrithik's
life in danger?
Ongoing is a dangerous crime thriller, but with a
difference. You can't walk out of it after three hours. It's
actually happening and the casualties (intended or actual)
aren't showreel, they're for real. The film
industry-under-world nexus has been speculated, written
about, been fodder for several ana-lytical news items. But,
like all things with a shelf-life, the attention-span devot-ed
to the subject has died out after the initial volatility.
For a while, the underbelly of the crime-world would retreat
into dark dens till the matter died. And resurface with
renewed vi-gour... until the next time.
This is such a time. The arrest of Nazim Rizvi, the
producer of the Salman-Rani-Preity starrer 'Chori Chori
Chupke Chupke' expos-es another such 'deadly' liaison
between the filmi and under-world don Chhota Shakeel. And
alongwith, like a montage, tumbled several more insights
into the crimes that have been recently committed and
remained unsolved. For instance, the inexplicable (not
really) shoot-out and the attempt on Rakesh Roshan's life.{Hrithik

Charged with, among other things, a criminal conspiracy on
at-tacking some film personalities, Nazim Rizvi would stand
trial/be released on bail a few days after this article goes
to press. He's accused to have used coercion under Chhota
Shakeel's name to get stars to prioritise his film.
Something that one can under-stand immediately. 'Coz on
several occasions, stars have con-fessed, ('strictly
off-the-record', of course) that they've had to perform at
stage shows, private parties of these criminals 'under
duress'. "We can't say 'No' or play difficult because
these people are dangerous, they'll stop at nothing. And you
have to think of your near-and-dear ones who can be
harmed."
Which is exactly what happened when Rakesh Roshan was
shot at. The conspiracy involved killing the heart-throb of
the nation, Hrithik Roshan and his father, who was
ultimately the target for shooting. Apparently, prior to the
shoot-out, extortion demands were made on Rakesh Roshan and
the filmmaker refused to capitu-late, which resulted in the
unfortunate violence and attempt on his life. 'Stardust'
checked with Rakesh about what had been appearing in the
papers and whether he was aware that he had been targeted.
And he sounded rather perplexed. "I'm quite
shocked," he said firmly. "I saw it on the news
last night and I still haven't been able to get over it. I
thought all this was behind me but looks like it's going to
continue for some more time. Somebody also told me sometime
back that a newspaper has even carried the taped
coversations between the producer and Chhota Shakeel, where
there seem to be some references made about me and Hrithik.
I've just sent my boy to get hold of the paper. The police
haven't got in touch with me so far but I'm sure they are
doing what they have to. What's most unfortunate is that
someone from the film industry is involved in something like
this. That's what bothers me most," he stated with a
tinge of concern.
Another name that came up in the course of this
film-underworld nexus investigation was that of financier
Bharat Shah, who's also funded 'Chori Chori...' But, on that
matter, not much is being spoken because things are
"not too clear", say the police.
Rizvi is said to have threatened Ajay Devgan and his
secretary too, to stall the release of their film 'Raju
Chacha', which would hit the theatres the same time as
Rizvi's 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke'. When contacted, Ajay's
secretary Kumar Mangat heard out the question about whether
he was threatened and then disconnected the line without
reply. Subsequently, the cellphone was kept off. Obviously,
he didn't want to take a stand with a 'Yes, I was
threatened' because then he'd have to face the music
sometime or the other. Fear looms larger than any attempt at
bravery or courage. Heroism is strictly meant for the
screen, we guess, even as Ajay Devgan wasn't available for
comment.
The police have exactly this very grievance. "The
film industry and stars who are threatened should come to us
if such an in-stance occurs. Only if they co-operate will we
be able to fight the underworld from spreading their
tenctacles and gripping the industry," said Joint
Commisioner of Police, D. Sivanandan.
On whether Hrithik Roshan would be provided protection,
now that it was clear that there was threat to his life,
Sivanandan said, "If the police is approached for
protection, we shall definitely do the needful. Whether it's
Hrithik Roshan or anyone else." But, the film
fraternity argues that the police of the land don't exactly
inspire supreme confidence. The lawmakers are several times
fooled by the lawbreakers. "If they've really
outsmarted us, how come we break their chain time and again?
But for us to do this effectively, we need the people
harassed to come forward," said a police spokesperson,
defending his creed.
And that's the bottom line. The crimefighters can't do
their job as long as the victims inadvertently aid the
criminals, by re-maining mum and succumbing to intimidation.
Ajay Devgan, Rakesh Roshan, et al... are you listening?
